Your bathroom is the most important room in your house. All arguments to the contrary, it is the one room that you have to use every day. You may go without sleep for a night, or eat out for your meals, but it’s your bathroom that demands your presence every day. As such, it is important to make it comfortable. Give it a look that is distinctly your own.
His and Hers
If you have the space, or if you are fortunate enough to have more than one bathroom to redecorate, designate one for both you and your significant other. Having your own bathrooms squashes so many conflicts before they even start for couples. Starting with “his and her” basics, you have a direction for your décor. For the man’s bathroom, think bold, rustic colors. You can minimize the space around the sink, as most men don’t have as many toiletries, and instead allow for extra room by the toilet and the shower. For women, choose softer, more vibrant colors, and consider putting in a vanity.
Comforts of Home
When you add up all the time you spend in the bathroom over the course of a year, you begin to wonder why you haven’t added some creature comforts to the room. Social taboos should be shut out of your mind as you consider ways to make your bathroom more comfortable. Put in an iPod docking station, consider mounting a flat screen TV, and place a reading rack by the toilet. Liven things up with some artwork on the walls. There’s no reason to be embarrassed – your friends will probably be jealous when they stop by. Regardless of all that, you’ll appreciate it when you sing in the shower or watch a movie from your tub.
Make it Modern
If you’re going to put some money into your house, it ought to be in your bathroom. If your home is more than twenty years old, there are several updates that can make a world of difference in the appearance of your bathroom. Begin by switching out the toilet for a newer, low flow one. Put in some tile for a strong, regal look. Vessel sinks, for example, can make a hand-washing station look like a work of art. Make sure you match all this up with the right lighting. Top it off with some new, solid color towels and a fresh soap dispenser, and your bathroom will look brand new.
