Treatment Options For Infertility

Even though many people visit infertility doctors for treatment, quite a number never know what to expect. One very important thing to note is that infertility doctors carry out very thorough processes. Before they take you through any form of treatment, they will conduct tests to see if your issue can be resolved immediately and if not, then you will have to make a sequence of visits until they are able to come up with a suitable solution. As a couple, you may view this treatment as your only hope; thus, it’s good to know about the alternatives your doctor may recommend so you are better prepared for the procedure.

Medication is one of the very common treatments infertility doctors may give. The exact type of medication will however vary with the couple –there’s no standard fit for all since every individual has a unique system. For some people, the infertility may come about due to a condition connected to the reproductive system while for others it may be due to an existing illness or a surgery that may have been conducted before. In a case where the problem has been caused by an obstacle in the reproductive area, you may be referred to a general practitioner. While many people know about the existence of infertility medications, these medicines are infrequently prescribed; they are only given when other options do not work. For some couples, infertility doctors may suggest a change in diet or even give supplements to encourage conception.

There are also instances where surgery may be used, but this is only done when the doctor finds it really necessary to do so. None of the surgical procedures that infertility doctors use can produce a magical result though because with infertility treatment, it all depends on how your system responds. Besides, some pre-existing problems can be corrected through surgery, but others are irreversible. For instance, a woman’s uterus and fallopian tubes have to be in perfect health for her to be able to conceive and in case there is an issue with any of these, the doctor may carry out a surgery to help resolve the issue and heighten the chances of conception. However, if a woman is unable to get a baby due to very poor quality of eggs, the quality of the eggs cannot be changed and in such a case, the couple may have to settle on donor eggs. The same applies when the man’s sperm is not of the required quality and in this instance, sperm may be collected from a donor.

In special cases, In Vitro Fertilization may be used. When this process is applied, the woman’s eggs are fertilized in a laboratory and then attached to her womb thereafter. The embryo development process takes place outside the body as well. Though, the woman’s ovulation has to be monitored so as to ensure that the eggs are retrieved on time. If the woman faces a high risk of Ovarian Hytper-stimulation Syndrome, the procedure may be halted. In general however, IVF usually gives a couple great chances of getting a baby.
