I can be without lipsticks, eye liners, nail polishes and eyeshadows, but I really can’t be without a blush. 😀 It’s really simple – blush is something that makes you look fresher without too much trouble and it instantly makes you look better like no other product. These days there are many shades of blushes available, but beside that, there are also many blush formula you can get – powder, gel, cream, etc. There’s only the problem of what and how to choose, and in the end – how to apply blush. I hope this post will help you find the answers to those questions. 🙂
Blush Formulas
You can find really many different types of blushes these days and I really think it’s not difficult to find the right formula. I personally prefer powder blushes (compact), but there are so many other formulas and these are just some of them, I think the most popular/known:
- powder blush – compact,
- powder blush,
- gel blush,
- cream blush, and
- stick
Of course, there are some other formulas like pencil blushes, liquid blushes, cream/powder blushes… And as I said, there’s really something to choose and here’s something about the most popular blush formulas you should or need to know. 🙂
Powder blushes (compact)
This is my favorite formula because they are so easy to use and so easily applied. They blend nicely and are suitable for all skin types. Of course, there are some differences among these blushes too – some have softer, and some have harder formula which makes them a bit different when applied.
Cream blushes
This is my 2nd favorite formula and though I always avoided these blushes, I really had no reason to do that because the ones I tried – NYX Cream Rouge Blushes – are so easy to work with. They apply nice, blend easily and give this fresh and natural look to my skin. The only problem there might be with this formula is it’s not suitable for all skin types, at least not for oily skin but you can try it. I have combination skin and they work fine for me.
Powder blushes
These blushes are quite a like as the compact powder blushes, but I don’t use them quite often because it is a bit tricky to use them. They tend to fly all over the bathroom if I’m not careful when applying them. Though they do look fine and blend nicely and they are suitable for all skin types.
Stick blushes
The formula is a bit thicker than the cream formula and they don’t apply so easily as the cream blushes do. They do look nice and natural, but I’m not really a fan of applying blush with my fingers because I can’t blend them the way I should. I think these are great for someone with really nice skin.
Other formulas
I can mention liquid blush because I had one long time ago and it was quite and nice, reminds me of Benefit benetint and works the same way, but that kind formula was a turn off for me. As I said, I don’t like to apply blush with my fingers. Beside that, you can find some other formulas like gel blush, pencil blush, etc. I didn’t have any experience with those blushes, but feel free to add your experience in the comment box. 🙂

I use my blush brushes all the time and I don’t think fingers could ever compare with brushes. I have few brushes which I use (so I don’t have to wash them after each use) and here are my basic 3 brushes:
essence blush brush, ecotools blush brusg, stippling brush
- essence blush brush – I use it for powder blushes with harder texxture and for applying highlighters,
- ecotools blush brush – I use it for most blushes I own, but mostly for powder blushes,
- stippling brush – I use it for highly pigmented and cream blushes
I am very satisfied with all 3 brushes, each of them is used for something so I try to get the best of every blush brush I own. 🙂
Applying blush – how and where
There is a rule about applying blushes, and to get the picture you can check out this photo where you can see nicely how to apply blush for each face shape – link. To be honest, it’s not like I follow that rule blindly because I apply blush the way I think it suits me the most, and I recommend the same thing to you too.
Of course, you won’t apply your blush all over the face – you have your cheek bones for blush. If you don’t know where exactly they are, try a simple trick – suck your cheeks in (fish look, if you know what I mean 😀 ) and you’ll see where exactly your cheekbones are. If your cheekbones aren’t accentuated, use your fingers to feel them. And as you can see on the picture I linked to, the blush is always applied either on the cheekbones or at the end of them (the end by your cheeks, not ears).
