Chic Dinner: 6 Rooftops for an Evening Getaway in New York

New York is a city where building height matters. The higher you are, the easier it’s to assess the scale and industrial panorama of urban views. Therefore, New Yorkers love rooftops and make everything on them: sunbathe, dance, swim in the pools, eat, and drink.

We offer a choice of several bars and restaurants where you can enjoy views of the most famous skyscrapers accompanied by exquisite cocktails and delicious food. If your flight arrives at Laguardia Airport, then Thrifty car rental LGA is the fastest way to get anywhere in New York.

Chart House

The restaurant is located on the coast of the Hudson River, exactly opposite the brightest and most high-rise block of Manhattan – Midtown Manhattan. From the stained glass windows of this restaurant you can see the most fascinating views of the Manhattan skyscrapers glowing with millions of lights.

The restaurant offers guests predominantly seafood of the highest quality, a large wine and cocktail menu, as well as exceptionally delicious desserts. The place always requires advance reservation, since in the evening, after the sunset, when Manhattan turns into a huge beautiful picture, visitors to this restaurant can enjoy the amazing panorama. The prices in menu and wine list offered by the restaurant are slightly higher than the average for New York.

The Press Lounge

The restaurant’s interior and the view of the surrounding skyscrapers of Manhattan makes the Press Lounge unconditional number 2 in our list of places with the best views in New York.

Located in the Hell’s Kitchen district on the 16th floor of the Kimpton Ink48 hotel, the restaurant offers its guests exclusively selected cocktails, a wine list and a perfect selection of simple and exquisite dishes. This rooftop establishment was opened in 2010 and won several awards over the years of its existence – so as reported by the authoritative New York Magazine, it was named the best rooftop restaurant in New York. Also, the Press Lounge entered the selection of the twenty best rooftops in the world! Cocktail and wine list of the restaurant is of the middle price category.

The River Café

It was opened in its place back in 1977, when in this area of Brooklyn there was still a huge industrial center with coastal docks.

Today, the River Cafe is one of the best restaurants in New York to dine after a leisurely stroll through the nearby DUMBO district. Here you can have a tasty dinner while admiring beautiful views of the skyscrapers of Manhattan. The view from the stained glass windows of the River Cafe includes the three most important sights of New York – Brooklyn Bridge, WTC1 Skyscraper and of course the Statue of Liberty!

The restaurant is not cheap because it awarded a Michelin star! In fact, at different times such famous New York chefs as Larry Forgione, Charlie Palmer and David Burk worked there.

230 Fifth

This is another New York bar with an exceptional and breathtaking view of the surrounding skyscrapers. 230 Fifth is located on the 20th floor of the building at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway.

The uppermost floor of the building is completely open rooftop terrace-garden, where tables and sofas for guests are placed between the trees and shrubs. There are huge umbrellas over each table or sofa to provide guests with complete comfort in case of rain or hot weather, as well as gas heaters if the weather is cool.

Despite the fact that the establishment is called a bar, 230 Fifth offers guests not only cocktails and wine, but also a full menu. However, keep in mind that the kitchen is open until midnight.

In addition, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10am till 4pm 230 Fifth provides a buffet-style brunch menu. Despite the good location of the bar and the exceptional view that opens to guests, its prices are average.

Asiate

The restaurant is located in one of the most expensive hotels in New York – Mandarin Oriental. This means you get the exceptional quality of the kitchen, but also high prices.

Despite the name of the restaurant, it specializes in American cuisine, but, at the same time with a slight Asian touch. White tablecloths, wooden decoration and one of the largest wine lists in New York (more than 3 thousand items) make the Asiate a restaurant that is usually not visited daily, but on certain occasions.

The restaurant is located on the 35th floor of a high-rise building, right on the corner of Central Park. In addition to the park itself, you will have a view of Columbus Square, and Central Park South – the street with the most respectable hotels of New York.

Address: 80 Columbus Cir, New York, NY 10023

The View

The View is a New York classic – the restaurant that was built precisely so that its guests could enjoy the views of Manhattan, and not from one place, but from all sides.

The fact is that while sitting and sipping champagne or a cocktail, the restaurant slowly makes a 360-degree turn, encompassing the entire New York skyline. The main trick of this restaurant is that it rotates around its axis, performing one full revolution per hour. The View is located on the 48th floor of the Marriott Marquis hotel in the heart of New York on Times Square.

The restaurant menu offers a large selection of American dishes prepared from fresh regional ingredients. Large selection of both meat and sea food products is available. The restaurant has a lounge bar, with a perfect selection of cocktails and wine.

Despite the somewhat outdated decor of the room, the price category of the restaurant and the View Bar Lounge is quite high.
