It is possible that you are asking yourself this question in front of your work, sad, tearful, on a blank page: why are you not a good writer? If we were talking about psychology, we could raise it from another perspective: is literary quality innate or learned?
A recognized author, essayist, and writer Amr Muneer Dahab argues that it depends on many things, and everyone has their opinion. Talent, as it is often called, is an instinct to unravel the writer’s tools. But if you do not learn them well, you dominate them and others. You are one night’s flower.
The undersigned believes something similar. And, although some are born with an innate talent, work is necessary. The good raw material without effort is that: raw material.
How to be a better writer
That’s the million-dollar question. That is why we bring you some tricks that, although they are not going to solve your life literally speaking, they can stop you from thinking why you are not a good writer.
Simple storytellers
Muneer says, “above all, you have to think that it must be consistent with the story, the context and the reader. It is of no use that in a story that does not need a very strange narrative voice you use a third-person plural.”
Think that, always, the most important thing is logic. Make stories with common sense in general, and you can enjoy your narrator. Stop complicated experiments for the reader if they have no logic.
Investigate to infinity and beyond
One thing that clashes a lot in novels is the absence of a context search. Those expressions that are not used in the nineteenth century or the appearance of a bikini in a historical novel of 1923. They are examples of what not to do if you want to achieve the suspension of your reader’s disbelief.
So research all that is necessary and take the time you need. It is better to ask yourself what you have to know before you are not a good writer.
The pedestals, for the figurines
In The IDs of March, Ryan Gosling told George Clooney that the first rule in politics was never to go to bed with the fellow. The first rule in writing is not to consider yourself untouchable, incorrigible, perfect.
We don’t doubt your excellent pen. In fact, we think if you are reading this article, it is an improvement. Seeking help is always the first step, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to get off your pedestal.
Do not believe that you are better than others, that you do not need corrections or work. What’s more: you can be a great story writer but not a novel writer. Or vice versa. You can even create as anyone, but not know how to develop dialogues.
Be that as it may, assume that you are not perfect and consider how to get off the pedestal in which you are. Also, remember that the taller you think you are, the more it hurts to fall.
